5 Birthday Party Themes Trending With Omaha Kids in 2026

I do Omaha birthday parties every weekend. Here's what kids are actually asking for in 2026 — forget Pinterest, this is the real list.

By Renee

I do balloon entertainment at Omaha birthday parties basically every weekend, so I get a front-row seat to what’s actually trending with local kids. Forget what Pinterest tells you — here’s what Omaha kids are genuinely asking for in 2026.

1. Dinosaurs (STILL.) 🦖

Dinosaurs never go out of style, but in 2026 they’re back HARD. Realistic dinos (Jurassic Park style) for ages 5+, friendly cartoon dinos for ages 3–5.

How to do it:

  • Greens, browns, oranges palette
  • Balloon dinosaurs (a twisted dino is one of my most-requested designs)
  • “Dinosaur eggs” hidden around the yard
  • Mini fossil dig in a sandbox

The kids who are REALLY into dinosaurs always ask me to “make it scarier” — sharper teeth, angrier face. They’re particular and I love it.

2. Roblox / Minecraft 🎮

For ages 7+, gaming themes are everywhere. Roblox specifically is dominating Omaha parties right now. Minecraft still strong.

How to do it:

  • Pixelated cake (try Cake Cottage in Council Bluffs or Cardinal Cake Co in Omaha)
  • Balloon swords + pickaxes (my specialty)
  • Print custom Roblox-style avatar cards for each guest

3. Mermaids / Underwater 🧜‍♀️

Mermaid parties are huge for ages 4–8 right now. But the vibe shifted — less pink-and-purple mermaid, more “tropical reef.” Realistic ocean colors, jellyfish, seahorses.

How to do it:

  • Blue, teal, coral palette
  • Balloon mermaids, fish, octopuses
  • Pool party if weather works
  • “Pearl hunting” treasure activity

4. Space / Astronaut 🚀

Quietly trending up. Kids into STEM, Lego, or science love this. Works for ages 5–10.

How to do it:

  • Black/dark blue tablecloth with star confetti
  • Balloon rockets + planets
  • “Build your own constellation” craft station
  • A small telescope (rent or borrow — kids lose it)

5. Unicorn — but the chic version ✨

Unicorns aren’t going anywhere, but 2026’s version is less rainbow explosion, more “muted pastels + a little glam.” Especially popular ages 4–7.

How to do it:

  • Soft pink, lavender, gold palette
  • Balloon unicorns + rainbows (I do these all the time)
  • Unicorn horn headbands for every kid
  • “Sparkle bar” — fancy non-alcoholic drinks with edible glitter

What I’m NOT seeing as much

Just for context, themes cooling off:

  • Frozen — still works for ages 3–4 but fading
  • Paw Patrol — same, very young only now
  • Generic superheroes — kids want specific characters (Spider-Man, Black Panther), not “superhero”
  • Generic princess — same shift, they want specific princesses

The neat thing about balloon art + themes

Balloon art works with literally any theme. I can do:

  • Dinosaurs (T-Rex, brontosaurus, raptor)
  • Roblox/Minecraft items (swords, pickaxes, blocks)
  • Mermaids/fish/seahorses
  • Rockets, aliens, planets
  • Unicorns + rainbows

So whatever you pick, balloons can amplify it without you having to coordinate a hundred specific décor items.
