Corporate Event Entertainment Ideas for Omaha Businesses (That Actually Wow)

20+ years of Omaha corporate gigs taught me what makes a company event memorable — and what doesn't. Here's the honest list.

After 20+ years of corporate gigs in Omaha — grand openings, family days, holiday parties — I’ve seen what works and what doesn’t. Here’s what Omaha businesses are using to make their events actually memorable.

Why most corporate events fall flat

Be real: the average corporate event is forgettable. Same hotel ballroom, same buffet, same DJ playing throwback hits. Employees are nice about it but they’re checking their watches by 8 PM.

What makes an event memorable is something unexpected. Something employees mention Monday morning.

1. Live balloon artist (yes, for grown-ups)

Hear me out. Balloon twisting at corporate events works because:

  1. Icebreaker. Watch any adult get handed a balloon flower. They INSTANTLY become a 6-year-old. Great for networking events.
  2. Photo-worthy. People holding a balloon dog at a corporate event = great social media moments.

I’ve done balloon twisting at office holiday parties, grand openings, family days, client appreciation events, trade show booths. Adults are SURPRISED every time how much they love it.

(Quick note: I do balloon twisting — classic animals, swords, flowers, hats. If you need balloon décor like arches or backdrops, you’ll want a balloon decorator, which is a different specialty.)

Funniest story: did a grand opening for an Omaha law firm. Older partner walks up, very serious, asks for “a simple balloon dog.” Gets it. Two minutes later he’s back asking for an octopus “because his grandson would love it.” We hit it off. He’s now my insurance lawyer. Lol.

2. Family days that actually engage families

Hosting a company family day? Truth: parents come for the food, kids come for activities. Weak activities = families leave early.

Works:

  • Balloon artist (or multiple, for big events)
  • Face painter
  • Magician for a centerpiece “show” moment
  • Bouncy castles for under-7s
  • Yard games (giant Jenga, cornhole) for in-betweens

Doesn’t:

  • Generic “kids’ corner” with crayons (parents end up parenting)
  • Just food + drinks (kids bored, families leave)
  • Single entertainment track (one show — half the kids too young or too old)

3. Local Omaha experiences

Generic team-building is out. Local-flavor is in.

Omaha-specific:

  • Henry Doorly Zoo private after-hours event
  • Old Market progressive dinner (Spaghetti Works, Zio’s, Upstream, etc.)
  • CWS-themed event during College World Series (June)
  • Lauritzen Gardens reception
  • Lake Manawa boat outing (summer)
  • Council Bluffs Mid-America Center for bigger events

4. Grand openings that draw crowds

Opening a new Omaha business? What actually pulls foot traffic:

  • Balloon entertainment outside — visible from the street, draws people in
  • Ribbon-cutting with the chamber of commerce — gets you in local news
  • Free samples / giveaways — obvious but works
  • Live music — acoustic/jazz for upscale, more energetic for retail
  • Photo booth with branded backdrop — for the Instagram crowd

I do a lot of grand openings in Omaha. The balloon piece pulls people from a block away — free marketing.

5. Client appreciation that isn’t boring

Forget the steakhouse dinner. Try:

  • Relaxed family-friendly evening at your office with balloon entertainment + light food
  • A breakfast event instead of dinner (everyone’s fresher, no babysitter needed)
  • “Behind the scenes” tour of your office with entertainment for kids who tag along

Best client appreciation events feel like a friend’s house, not a corporate function.

6. Holiday parties with a twist

Standard formula: party room, music, food, drinks, awkward dancing. Improve:

  • Balloon artist for the first 90 min — great photos + breaks ice
  • Include partners AND kids (at least part of the evening)
  • End by 8 PM (parents will love you)
  • Real game or activity everyone joins
  • Skip “mandatory fun” — let people opt in

Why balloon entertainment specifically

I’m a balloon artist, so this is biased. But:

In 20 years of Omaha corporate events, I have NEVER seen a balloon artist NOT be the unexpected highlight. People remember it. They photograph it. They mention it Monday morning.

Cost is reasonable. Impact is high. Photos last forever.
